Available units include 3- and 4-bedroom options. The three story units have a kitchen and living room on the first floor with a half bath. The bedrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor, excluding the accessible unit. Each unit features at least 2 bathrooms and spans an area ranging from 1,684 to 1,867 square feet.

Low-cost utilities

The all-electric units include high efficiency electric heat pumps, which provides heating and cooling at a lower-cost solution while emitting a lower carbon footprint on the environment. The units also include all energy-efficient appliances including stove, microwave, dishwasher, and a washer/dryer on the 2nd floor.

Private backyard and parking

Each unit has a fenced in private backyard with patio space and a shed for storage purposes. Each unit also has two dedicated parking spaces that are accessed through the alley.

the project

South Holyoke Homes is the culmination of decades of community advocacy to build housing on vacant municipal lots around Carlos Vega Park, in the South Holyoke neighborhood of Holyoke, Massachusetts.

Holyoke Housing Authority (HHA) is proud to serve as developer the South Holyoke Homes, an affordable rental and homeownership project in South Holyoke. Phase 1 was completed in 2023 and Phase 2 consists of 20 new duplex homes around Carlos Vega Park currently for sale.

The primary objectives Urban Renewal Plan include:

  • redeveloping vacant property
  • adding more density
  • improving housing options
  • improving housing stock
  • rehabilitate or remove blighted properties
  • upgrade public infrastructure
  • create a sustainable community
  • improve quality of life
  • promote private investment and the creation of new jobs
  • increase the tax base by redeveloping underutilized and vacant property
  • increase home ownership opportunities
